Lisa Harris Jones , Lead Independent Trustee

Ms. Harris Jones has been an SNH Trustee since 2015. She is the Lead Independent Trustee and the Chair of the Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee. In 2000, she founded Harris Jones & Malone, LLC and today is one of the most successful female and minority owned professional firms in the United States. Ms. Harris Jones has represented municipalities and related quasi-public agencies; non-profits; and small and large business enterprises, both publicly and privately held. Ms. Harris Jones has dedicated a great deal of her time and resources to matters of public interest. She has worked in a pro bono capacity for dyslexia education, community development in Baltimore City’s most challenging areas, and the advancement of Minority Business Enterprises. Ms. Harris Jones is an Independent Director of TravelCenters of America Inc. (Nasdaq: TA) and Independent Trustee of Industrial Logistics Properties Trust (Nasdaq: ILPT).

Jeffrey P. Somers , Independent Trustee

Mr. Somers has been an SNH trustee since 2009. Mr. Somers is Chair of the Board's Compensation Committee. Mr. Somers is Of Counsel with the law firm of Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, PC, of Waltham, MA, where he previously served as managing member for a number of years. He held the same role at his prior law firm and began his legal career as a staff attorney at the SEC. Mr. Somers also serves as an Independent Trustee on the boards of Office Properties Income Trust (Nasdaq: OPI),  RMR Funds (NYSE American: RIF) and Tremont Mortgage Trust (Nasdaq: TRMT).

John L. Harrington , Independent Trustee

Mr. Harrington has been an SNH trustee since 1999. Mr. Harrington is Chairman of the Board's Audit Committee. Mr. Harrington was the CEO of the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club until 2002, and is currently the Executive Director and Chairman of the Yawkey Foundation and a trustee of the JRY Trust. Mr. Harrington is a certified public accountant. Mr. Harrington also serves as an Independent Trustee of Service Properties Trust (Nasdaq: SVC), Office Properties Income Trust (Nasdaq: OPI), RMR Funds (NYSE American: RIF) and Tremont Mortgage Trust (Nasdaq: TRMT).

Adam D. Portnoy , Managing Trustee

Mr. Portnoy has served as one of our Managing Trustees since 2007 and as Chairman of the Board since 2019. Mr. Portnoy is President and Chief Executive Officer of The RMR Group Inc. (Nasdaq: RMR) and The RMR Group LLC. He is the Chair of the RMR Executive Operating Committee. Mr. Portnoy also serves on the Board of RMR and the Boards of several companies managed by RMR, including: Service Properties Trust (Nasdaq: SVC), Office Properties Income Trust (Nasdaq: OPI), Industrial Logistics Properties Trust (Nasdaq: ILPT), Tremont Mortgage Trust (Nasdaq: TRMT), Five Star Senior Living Inc. (Nasdaq: FVE), TravelCenters of America Inc. (Nasdaq: TA), RMR Real Estate Income Fund (NYSE American: RIF), Sonesta International Hotels Corporation (Private) and RMR Advisors LLC as well as Tremont Realty Advisors, both SEC registered investment advisors. Prior to joining RMR in 2003, Mr. Portnoy held various positions in the finance industry and public sector, including working as a banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and ABN AMRO, working in private equity at the International Finance Corporation (a member of The World Bank Group) and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, as well as serving as Chief Executive Officer of a telecommunications company. Mr. Portnoy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Occidental College in 1993.

Jennifer B. Clark , Managing Trustee

Ms. Clark has served as one of our Managing Trustees since 2018 and as Secretary since 2008. Ms. Clark is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of The RMR Group Inc. (Nasdaq: RMR) and The RMR Group LLC. Ms. Clark also serves on the boards of The RMR Group Inc., Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, an RMR managed company, and RMR Advisors LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of RMR. Prior to joining The RMR Group in 1999, Ms. Clark was a partner at the law firm of Sullivan & Worcester LLP where she had a broad based real estate and finance practice.
